Answer by Dances with Buddha
Am guessing you may refer to what in English is frequently known as “Extended Hand to Big Toe pose.”
I used to do yoga and I want to get back into it. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a yoga studio or a place that offers yoga classes? I’m looking for something semi inexpensive and close to me. I live in the zip code 33613. And I dont need anyone to look in the yellowpages or anything. I’ve already done that. I want someone who has been to the places that they are recommending. Also could you tell me how much the classes cost?

Question by Texas Cutie: Does this seem like a healthy plan to lose weight?
I am not one of those girls looking for people to tell her she is skinny. I am not 112 lbs. I really could lose a few pounds to end up healthier.

My goal wieght and to have a good BMI, is 115-120. So I would love to lose about 30-35 lbs, maybe before summer or spring break..

Here is my “Guidelines” I want to have myself follow… Give me your thoughts.

1. Food Guidelines

Little to no junk food– Chips, cookies, poptarts, ect… Whatever your weakness is, get it out of the house! (If this is not an option, two words… WILL POWER)

Feel the need for a snack? Fruit, dried fruit, veggies, granola bars, trail mix, popcorn, yogurt, JELLO, sunflower seeds, ECT…

No more soda. Try for water (lots of H2O!), some milk, and fruit juice every now and then.

ALWAYS eat breakfast, or else you will over eat later (guilty feeling, ya, no fun!)

Avoid the butter, salt, and sugar.

Eat slower, that way your body can know when it’s full.

2. Exercise Guidelines

Stretch before you work out.

60 minutes of time off your butt, minimum… Aerobics, Basketball, Biking, Dancing, Field Hockey, Hiking, Ice Hockey, Ice Skating, Jumping Rope, Kickball, Kickboxing, Pilates, Power Walking, Running, Soccer, Step Aerobics, Tennis, Track, Volleyball, Yoga… ECT.

You need aerobic/cardio exercise (makes your heart pump) and strength exercise (works your muscles)… try for one every other day or both in one day

Push yourself, but if you feel dizzy, have trouble breathing, or experience any serious/ out of the ordainary pain while you are exercising, STOP.

3. Helpful Hints

Realize spot loss isn’t possible, meaning you won’t lose weight in just your stomach if you only do crunches.

Try not to eat after 8 PM

Don’t stop after you lose the weight, this is a life style choice not a fad diet

Only weigh yourself once a week, keep track of your progress

Chew gum when your hungry, after half an hour if your still hungry… eat a snack

Buy some good work out shoes, ones that will have good support for your feet, this will save you future pain… good investment.

Buy a pair of jeans that is too small (realistically too small, not a 0)… now you have something to work towards… dont want that to be a waste of 30 bucks do you?

Don’t expect 10 lbs. to come off in your first week, realistic expectations are 1-2 lbs a week.

Don’t work yourself to death, have at least one (maybe two) days off from the slave drive we call exercise… but don’t pig out on those days either

Realize no one is perfect and tomorrow is a new day…

Have an accountability partner, when you have to hit a fast food place she’ll suggest that grilled chicken salad doesn’t sound half bad…

Best answer:

Answer by кαтιε ღ ; cαηαdα εн!
Sounds good to me.
But make sure you eat HEALTHY! That means LOTS of fruits and vegetables, some lean meats, dairy and little amounts of grains.

Try keeping healthy snacks on hand in case you get hungry during the day. Pre-cut fruit and veggies, nuts and seeds, natural jerky, cheese and whole grain crackers, peanut butter, the possibilities are endless.

Answer by Divine Seeker
Yoga in Sanskrit means union of self with the source. The source can be taken as one’s higher self, God or universal creative energy, which has a omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient nature.

For me as an individual, Yoga means reaching better life, physically, mentally and spiritually. Health and energy would be an integral result. Also my attitude towards life is purified by Yoga.

Question by Texas Cutie: Does this sound like a healthy plan?
Any improvements, comments or ideas… please let me know…

I tried “dieting” and that doesn’t work for me… So I am trying more like a guidelines thing, rather than a strict plan. This way everything is more flexible…

Avoid the extra butter, salt, and sugar.

You need aerobic/cardio exercise (makes your heart pump) and strength exercise (works your muscles)… try for one every other day

Push yourself, but if you feel dizzy, have trouble breathing, or experience any serious/ out of the ordainary pain while you are exercising, STOP. (yah, I know, DUH)

Don’t work yourself to death, have at least one (maybe two) days off from the slave drive we call exercise… but don’t pig out on those days either

Realize no one is perfect and tomorrow is a new day…

Have an accountability partner, when you have to hit a fast food place she’ll suggest that grilled chicken salad doesn’t sound half bad…

Best answer:

Answer by Walker
Sounds spot on. I might adopt this plan of yours actually.

I can never seem to clear my mind long enough or sit still long enough to meditate. After a few minutes I get bored and my mind will wander. I really want to get into TM but the classes are over $ 2000.00, and I can’t afford it. Does anyone know how to do it and how to get your mind to be still? Only serious answers please. Thank you for your help.

Best answer:

Answer by Sue
I don’t think a person’s mind is every really Still – unless while sleeping. But if you’re wanting to meditate / to rest your mind. Meditate on the Psalms. Meditating is just fixing your mind on what you’re reading. There is a verse you could look up – John 3:16 — read it slowly / meditate on what it’s saying.

Question by Lovely Rita: Is yoga a good way to tone my body?
I wouldn’t say im fat (5’4″ 102lbs) but i really need to tone my body especially my butt, abs, and thighs. I have a yoga DVD with 20 mins of morning yoga and about an 1hr and 20 mins of nightime yoga. Will this alone help me tone my problem areas or do i need to be doing more, i also try to get at least 20 mins cardio everyday.

Answer by Emily Pittman
Increasing Flexibility – yoga has positions that act upon the various joints of the body including those joints that are never really on the ‘radar screen’ let alone exercised.

Increasing lubrication of the joints, ligaments and tendons – likewise, the well-researched yoga positions exercise the different tendons and ligaments of the body.

Surprisingly it has been found that the body which may have been quite rigid starts experiencing a remarkable flexibility in even those parts which have not been consciously work upon. Why? It is here that the remarkable research behind yoga positions proves its mettle. Seemingly unrelated “non strenuous” yoga positions act upon certain parts of the body in an interrelated manner. When done together, they work in harmony to create a situation where flexibility is attained relatively easily.

Massaging of ALL Organs of the Body – Yoga is perhaps the only form of activity which massages all the internal glands and organs of the body in a thorough manner, including those – such as the prostate – that hardly get externally stimulated during our entire lifetime. Yoga acts in a wholesome manner on the various body parts. This stimulation and massage of the organs in turn benefits us by keeping away disease and providing a forewarning at the first possible instance of a likely onset of disease or disorder.

One of the far-reaching benefits of yoga is the uncanny sense of awareness that it develops in the practitioner of an impending health disorder or infection. This in turn enables the person to take pre-emptive corrective action

Complete Detoxification – By gently stretching muscles and joints as well as massaging the various organs, yoga ensures the optimum blood supply to various parts of the body. This helps in the flushing out of toxins from every nook and cranny as well as providing nourishment up to the last point. This leads to benefits such as delayed ageing, energy and a remarkable zest for life.

Excellent toning of the muscles – Muscles that have become flaccid, weak or slothy are stimulated repeatedly to shed excess flab and flaccidity.

Harness the power of yoga and gain the 3-fold Advantage of Fitness + Freedom from Stress + Happiness…Details
